7 Day Plant Based Food Journey
There has always been a part of me that would prefer to not harm animals, I actually went vegetarian “secretly” at a young age after walking into a room out on a farm (I grew up in Miners Rest, outside Ballarat) to find my dad and his friend cutting up a cow. This was to be our meat for the next month. The shock, smell and realization made me unable to eat meat for quite some time. I didn’t want to get in trouble so I tried to avoid meat as much as I could and say things like I am not hungry. I was also fearful of what my family would say if I told them I didn’t want to eat meat from a place of not belonging. This lasted about 2 weeks.
But this 7 day journey is not, at this stage intended to be a lifelong thing.
– I am commonly seeing more and more vegan and vegetarian clients in practice and in other projects I am involved in. I respect their decision whole heartedly but feel I am limited when it comes to food and recipe suggestions and overall support.
– I know the nutrients that are limited in this way of eating (including vitamin B12, calcium, iron and zinc) and want to be more equipped with foods and brands that are fortified with these ingredients to offer better suggestions.
– I want to have a greater understanding of what it is like to live as a vegan or plant based eater in this culture and community. How and if they accept and support your beliefs.
– Experience how a plant based diet makes me FEEL and FUNCTION.
What this is not:
– A way to lose weight!
– Craving animal products and thinking about food a lot. If this occurs, to support my mental health and relationship with food I will eat what I feel my body needs.
– Not feeling as satisfied without dairy and animal protein.
– Not getting as much satisfaction or enjoyment out of my food.
– Being challenged when with others who may be preparing my food after being invited around and feel like I am being an “inconvenience” and getting asked a million questions and not being supported.
Please understand that I do not mean to offend anyone.
This is intended as a way to learn and to better support others professionally and socially.
